Giffard Cherry Brandy is a high quality cherry liqueur made by the Giffard family who are based at Angers in the Loire valley.
Maison Giffard was fouded in 1885 by Emile Giffard, a pharmacist who was located in Angers.
He was interested in the digestive and refreshing properties of mint and he created a product called Giffard Menthe Pastille, a pure, transparent, refined, white mint liqueur which was an immediate success. Five generations later the Giffard family still run the business and produce that same Menthe-Pastille as well as Crèmes de fruits, Liqueurs, Guignolets and Syrups.
Giffard Cherry Brandy is made using Griotte Cherries., dark cherries with a tangy taste. The fruit, which in this case includes some raspberries too, is macerated in brandy for a period ranging from 48 hours up to 3 months depending on the time necessary for the optimum blend of fruit and alcohol. The infusion obtained is the essential base for the production of the liqueur.
