The Cohiba Wide Short Cigars were first launched in the UK in 2024. Unsurprisingly, these cigars are wider than the Cohiba Shorts, but they are also about 3/4 inch longer. They measure 4 inches in length with a ring gauge of 32.
Cohiba is the flagship Cuban Cigar brand of Habanos S.A. and was created in 1966. It was formally launched in 1968, for President Fidel Castro, and the cigars were made at the then top secret, now world famous, El Laguito factory. Originally Cohiba Cigars were only ever for the use of high-ranking government officials and for giving away as gifts to heads of state and visiting diplomats. The Cohiba Cigar brand was first launched outside of Cuba at the 1982 Football World Cup in Spain. The name comes from the ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba – the earliest known form of a Habano.
As mentioned above, the Cohiba Wide Shorts are larger than Cuban Minis and Cuban Shorts. These are machine-made in Cuba at the ITC factory using the tobacco leaves, taken from the same plants, that are harvested to produce the tobacco for Cohiba’s premium Havana cigars. These plants are grown in the Vuelta Abajo region in Cuba, an area located west of the island, which is widely regarded as the finest tobacco-growing land in the world.
These are an excellent smaller cigar offering a brief taste of the classic Cohiba style. They are medium to full-bodied cigarillos and a very affordable taste of Cuba. They are spicy with a creamy character, and have hints of grass, coffee, and nutty notes. They are ideal for the inexperienced smoker or anyone looking for a quick, quality smoke, perhaps for a pre-dinner aperitif cigar or with a cup of coffee.
The Cohiba Wide Shorts are packaged in the iconic Cohiba yellow and black packaging in packs of 10, with each cigar individually cellophane wrapped. No cutter is required.
Smoking time is around 15 to 20 minutes.
Also available in packs of 6 cigars.
