The Montecristo Open Eagle is the largest cigar in the Open range and has a hefty 54 ring gauge. This vitola is known as the “Geniales” and is also vitola used for the Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan. These are both large cigars, the largest straight-sided Cuban cigars available (apart from maybe the Romeo Y Julieta Wide Churchills).
Montecristo cigars take their name from Alex Dumas’ famous book “The Count of Montecristo” which was a favourite when it was read to the cigar rollers, or Torcedores, whilst they worked. The factory was founded in 1935 and they make two ranges of cigars, the Linea Clasica and the new Open Range.
Montecristo Open Eagle cigars were introduced in 2009 and, like the rest of the Open Series, have a slightly lighter blend than the standard range of Montecristo Cuban Cigars. The Open Range blend is lighter than the Montecristo Clasica range of cigars and was produced to target a new generation of smokes, particularly those that enjoy outdoor pursuits such as sailing and golf (hence Open, Regata and Eagle).
Presented individually in a cedar lined aluminium tube.
