The Plasencia Cosecha 151 La Musica Robusto is a slender robusto, 5 inches long with a 50 ring gauge. It is a full-bodied, Honduran Puro which was launched to celebrate Plasencia’s 151st harvest (or “cosecha”) in 2016. Produced at Plasencia’s Tabacos de Oriente factory. The range also includes a Toro and Corona Gorda.
Plasencia Cigars was initially founded by Don Eduardo Plasencia who emigrated from The Canary islands in 1865 to Cuba and began to grow tobacco. The farm remained in family hands until it was confiscated by Fidel Castro’s regime in 1963. Don Elder Sixto and his family fled to Mexico and and ended up in Nicaragua in 1965 where he planted some of his best seeds. The farms were burned by The Sandinistas in 1978 and the family fled to Honduras where Nestor Plasencia entered the cigar business. Eventually, in 1990, the family would return to Nicaragua and re-start the business they were forced to leave.
Today, Plasencia is one of the largest tobacco growers and cigar producers in the country. They are involved in every aspect of the cigar-making process, from seed to final product. This vertical integration allows them to maintain strict quality control and ensure that only the finest tobacco is used in their cigars. Plasencia make cigars for some very well-known brands such as Gurkha, Alex Bradley and Rocky Patel but it wasn’t until relatively recently, in 2017, that they launched the first cigars under the Plasencia brand.
All the leaves for the Plasencia Cosecha 151 La Musica Robusto come from the family farm in Honduras. These are long filler and hand rolled. Some of the the tobacco is from 2016, the company’s 151th harvest lending deep, well-fermented character to the blend.
