Cigar Profile
The Plasencia Alma del Cielo Celeste Robusto is a Nicaraguan puro, handcrafted exclusively from tobacco grown at the Plasencia family’s Finca San Julián in Condega. Situated at an impressive 1,300 meters above sea level, it is the world’s highest tobacco-growing estate, producing distinctive and exceptionally complex cigars. Available to buy now at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Plasencia Cigars was founded by Don Eduardo Plasencia, who emigrated from the Canary Islands to Cuba in 1865 and began growing tobacco. The family farm remained in their possession until it was confiscated by Fidel Castro’s regime in 1963. Don Elder Sixto and his family fled to Mexico and later settled in Nicaragua in 1965, where they planted some of their finest tobacco seeds.
In 1978, the Sandinistas burned their farms, forcing the family to flee to Honduras, where Nestor Plasencia entered the cigar business. The family returned to Nicaragua in 1990 to re-establish their operations. Today, Plasencia is the world’s largest tobacco grower and produces cigars for world-famous cigar brands like Alec Bradley, Rocky Patel and Gurkha. The family first launched cigars under their Plasencia brand in 2017.
Crafted entirely from Nicaraguan tobacco, these cigars are grown in the mineral-rich soils of Condega, which, combined with the high-altitude microclimate, imparts distinctive flavours of chocolate, plum, oak, and spice.
The name “Alma del Cielo” translates as “soul of the sky”, reflecting the elevation of the Finca San Julián estate where the tobacco is grown. The range Alma del Cielo range also includes two larger cigars, the Boreal Toro and the Amanecer Hexagona, and was first launched in 2025.
The Plasencia Alma del Cielo Celeste Robusto is a good-looking Robusto cigar with three dark blue cigar bands with gold details.

From Plasencia:
The Alma del Cielo flavour journey opens with a rich, creamy sweetness of marzipan and honey, accented by subtle hints of nougat. As the cigar evolves, earthy undertones weave through, accompanied by delicate traces of orange zest. The heart of the smoke unveils warm cedar and more nougat, while the finish delivers a harmonious crescendo, with a refined touch of ginger spice that lingers gently.
Try with an aged Scotch whisky. Glenmorangie Nectar, aged in ex-Sauternes casks will complement the nutty, honeyed notes in the cigar.
Alternatively, it will pair well with softer, mature rum like the Ron Cubay 10 Year Old.
Pair with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, or an espresso coffee.
