brands.
Asbach is one of Germany’s most famous brands. Asbach history goes back to the year 1892, when company founder Hugo Asbach left his adopted home country France and made his dream of an own company come true in Rüdesheim on the romantic Rhein. He had previously acquired a high degree of know-how of distilling wines from renowned French distillers, and he made use of this knowledge to achieve an ambitious goal: to create a product equal to French cognacs and at the same time to cater to German tastes. To day the company is a subsidiary of Underberg AG, which also makes the famous herbal digestif, other spirits and chocolate. The Asbach range of brandies consists of the Asbach Uralt (previously known as Asbach 3 Year Old), an 8 year old, this 15 year old and a 21 year old.
Asbach 15 Year Old Brandy, which is also known as Asbach Spezialbrand 15 Year Old Brandy, is made from selected wines from various wine-growing regions; however; nearly all of the wines used are from the Charente region of France. The wines are then double distilled in copper stills, A “raw spirit” is created in a first stage which is redistilled to produce a “fine spirit” in the second stage of distillation. Asbach age their brandies considerably longer than the minimum 6 months required by law and the distillates selected for the finest Asbach brandies, stored for a substantially longer period. The distillates are matured in small 300 Litre Limousine oak barrels and later on in bigger casks of German oak for a minimum of 15 years. The final part of in the production is blending. The art of the master distiller lies in using his experience and skill to produce a perfect balance between pure elegance, perfect smoothness and the rich aromas and characteristic strength of genuinely mature distillates. Tyupically the 15 year old displays a touch of sweetness, an almost imperceptible but agreeable hint of bitterness and its distinctive dark-gold colour.
