Corner Fifty Three Distilling (C53) is based in Clanfield, Hampshire just on the edge of the South Downs National Park. It was a project five years in the making and eventually came to fruition in 2016. It was founded by bartender Tom Rudman who, after 4 years of mixology and creating cocktails, set out to make his perfect gin. He is able assisted by his family and friends, designer Richard Cope and sommelier Jamie Williams.
Corner Fifty Three Pomelo Gin is described by C53 as “the child of zest”. The fruity botanicals are pink grapefruit, Cox’s Pippin apples, Conference pears balanced with aromatic Wormwood and sweet liquorice.
C53 recommend serving this with plenty of ice and a Mediterranean style tonic water to bring out the vibrant flavours. It is also great in a Grapefruit Soda cocktail.
Corner Fifty Three Pomelo Gin has a wonderfully fresh nose. There are aromas of pink grapefruit, spicy hints of white pepper, savoury woody aromatics, a touch of mint, juniper and honeydew melon. There is an initial burst of sweetness on the palate, more spicy, peppery character and good clean citrus fruit. It is round on the palate with an refreshing hint of bitterness and a clean, fresh and lingering finish.
