Half Hitch Gin is an small-batch, handcrafted English Gin made in Camden Lock, London. It is produced in former warehouse vaults in an area of London which has a strong history of gin production. Ex-Bacardi man Mark Holdsworth launched Half Hitch Gin in 2014. The base gin is distilled in copper pot stills at Langley’s Distillery. However Holdsworth also makes various flavoured tinctures and distillates using modern vacuum distilling at this micro-distillery base in West Yard, Camden Lock. In 2016 Holdsworth will finish installing his own still in Camden to bring the production of the base gin in-house. Vacuum distillation can be performed at a lower temperature than normal distillation which means than the delicate flavours of the botanicals to make the tinctures and distillates are not damaged. These delicately flavoured liquids are carefully blended together with the base gin and bottled at 40% ABV. The botanicals used to make Half Hitch Gin include Malawian black tea, pepper, hay, English wood and Calabrian bergamot (think Earl Grey). The name itself was inspired by the knots used to tie barges to the Lock.
