Silverback Mountain Strength Gin is the first and orginal gin released by the Gorilla Spirits Co. It is a small-batch distilled, elegant, citrus forward gin in the classically modern London Dry style. Bottled at a Mountain Strength of 46% ABV.
The Gorilla Spirits Co. was founded by Andy Daniels and was born out of a passion for wishing to produce high-quality, artisan spirits while also supporting conservation efforts. Andy spent four years perfecting the Mountain Strength Gin recipe until the first release in 2015. The original distillery was located in Four Marks near Alton but, needing more space, they relocated to the village of Upton Grey, southeast of Basingstoke, in the summer of 2018. As of 2024, the spirits are made at the Spirit of Manchester Distillery.
As well as this fabulous flavoured gin they also produce various other gins, including Silverback Mountain Strength, an Old Tom, a Wild Strawberry and Blackback Vodka, Karisimbi Spiced Rum and Maraba coffee liqueurs. Their products have received many awards and accolades for their quality and craftsmanship.
Silverback Gin is a small batch gin made using a pure wheat base spirit as a clean background spirit to allow the expression of the botanicals. The botanicals in Silverback Gin include Juniper, Coriander, Angelica, Sweet Orange, Calamus Root, Acacia Blossom and Lemongrass. Of course, gin must contain juniper as a botanical by law and coriander, angelica and sweet orange are fairly common gin botanicals. The next three are a little more unusual. Calamus Root brings a bit of warmth and spice, Acacia Blossom adds a sweet, honeyed note whilst lemongrass gives a clean, citrus-y finish. It is a very modern style of gin with the botanicals at the fore and the juniper in the background.
For every bottle of Silverback Mountain Strength Gin sold in the UK, Gorilla Spirits add GAT (Gorilla Added Tax). For each bottle sold, 10% of the profits go directly to The Gorilla Organization who are working to save the last remaining gorillas from extinction.
Each bottle is made from 100% post consumer recycled glass, meaning that it is made from the glass that all of us have put into our recycling bins!
