Winchester Distillery Spring Meadow Gin is a small batch, micro-distilled Hampshire gin made at the Winchester Distillery. It is a limited edition gin which owner and distiller Paul Bowler only makes a batch once a year. It joins three other seasonal gins in their portfolio, the Summer Garden, Autumn Hedgerow and Winter Wassail.
Winchester Distillery is a small, artisanal spirits producer located in Winchester, Hampshire. The distillery was founded by ex-software developer Paul Bowler in 2014, who started with a small 25 litre still in his garage. The company specialises in producing high-quality spirits using traditional methods, modern energy-saving equipment and botanicals sourced from the local Hampshire surroundings. Winchester Distillery is arguably most famous for their Hampshire watercress-infused Twisted Nose Gin, which was the first they released in 2013.
All of the Hampshire gins at Winchester Distillery are distilled in a traditional copper pot still, a descendent of the alembic still, used to make batches of spirits, unlike the continuous distillation of large, more commercial column stills. Pot stills produce a very fine grade of spirit. The botanicals are gently crushed, mixed, and macerated in a pure, neutral spirit to release the oils that give the gin its characteristic flavours. The spirit and macerated botanicals are then re-distilled in the pot still, and only the heart of the distillate is used for the final bottling.
Winchester Distillery Spring Meadow Gin is a wonderfully fresh style of gin, perfect for drinking in the spring and summer months. It is a juniper-rich style of gin made with fresh and floral spring botanicals, including elderflower, lavender, lime flower and orange blossom.
Winchester Distillery Spring Meadow Gin is a bright, floral gin that works well with Indian tonic, plenty of ice and a citrus twist.
