Description

Bareksten Double Gin is made by blending two distillates, one made with 100% juniper berries and the other made with eight different botanicals. Unusually, the base spirit is made from potatoes.

Bareksten Spirits was founded in 2015 by Stig Bareksten, a well known Norwegian entrepreuner, at his Oss Craft Distillery which is located in Flesland to the south west of Bergen. Bareksten had worked as a bartender in London in the 1990s and would later become a Norwegian Champion. He went on to found Det Norske Brenneri in Grimstad on the Norwegian south coast where he developed his first commercial spirits, such as the award-winning Harahorn and Arvesølvet as well as Norway’s first whiskey. In 2015 he acquired an abandoned bio fuel factory right next to Flesland airport in his native Bergen and founded Bareksten Spirits. Success came quickly when Bareksten Botanical Gin won a double-gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2017.

Bareksten represents the essence of Norway, in both taste and character – dark, wild, breath-taking and dramatic. Clean flavours inspired by ancient craft traditions are the soul of Bareksten`s botanical creations. Due to long hours of daylight and warm days and cold nights, Norway enjoys what may be, the best conditions in the world for growing herbs and berries. In fact 18 of the 26 botanicals used in Bareksten can be found growing around the distillery. The base product of potatoes is locally sourced as every effort is made to ensure that Norwegian-grown produce is used. The gin is distilled in small batches which gives a very potent product with a sublime, fruity expression. 

Bareksten Double Gin is a lighter, clean style with a fresh taste which distinguishes it from the rest of the gins produced.

Tasting Notes

Bareksten Double Gin has aromas of  range peel and elderflower brightness, with earthy juniper spiciness building underneath. Nuanced, cool and characterized by juniper berries with hints of citrus, green herbs, wild berries and pine needles. Subtly creamy, with a touch of berry sweetness developing later on.

To Serve

Perfect in a dry Martini or in a gin and tonic garnished with a slice of orange.
