The Botanist Islay Dry Gin is hand-crafted at world-famous Islay whisky distillery of Bruichladdich. It is produced using 22 wild, foraged botanical and 9 core classic gin botanicals which are orris root, angelica, cassia bark, cinnamon, coriander seed, lemon peel, orange peel, licorice and juniper. The 22 herbs and palnt are collected by an expert foraging team from the windswept hills, peat bogs and Atlantic shores of the Hebridean island of Islay.
The Botanist Islay Dry Gin is distilled in Bruichladdich’s unique and cherished Lomond still nicknamed Ugly betty, a cross between a pot still and a column still which operates slowly (distillation takes 17 hours) at a low pressure so the botanicals are slowly and gently coaxed into releasing their complex, signature aromatics. The spirit in the still is bought up to temperature (about hand hot, tested by hand) and the core gin botanicals are added to the spirit in the still in a particular order. They are then steeped for 12 hours before the spirit is then increased in temeperature until vapours start evaporating. The vapour is then passed through a casket containing the 22 foraged Islay botanical in loose muslin bags. The spirit vapours then progress through the rest go the still and are collected. So there is a two stage infusion process to extracting the flavours from the botanicals. The Botanist Islay Dry Gin is a highly distinctive, complex, floral gin and is truly small-batch distilled and hand-crafted.
And what are the 22 hand-foraged Islay botanicals in The Botanist Gin?
