Description

Poli Grappa Amorosa di Dicembre Torcolato is a young grappa, made from 100% Vespaiolo grapes from a single harvest. It is specifically made from Vespaiolo grapes used to make the sweet white Dessert wine, Torcolato. The Torcolato DO is located in the province of Vincenza in the heart of the Veneto region. The grapes used to make Torcolato are dried before the wine is made.

Poli are most famous as artisan producers of Grappa. The distillery was founded in 1898 by GioBatta Poli and  is located in located in Schiavon, near Bassano del Grappa, in the heart of Veneto. They also have a Grappa Museum in Bassano del Grappa. In addition to the fantastic range of grappas, brandies and liqueurs they have recently added a rather good gin, the Marconi 46.

The grape pomace used to make the Poli Grappa Amorosa di Dicember comes from raisined “passito” Vespaiolo grapes sourced from the Breganze Hills. The grape stalks in the pomace have to be painstakingly removed before distillation otherwise they can confer an unwanted grassy note in the grappa.  Distillation takes place in December and it is an artisanal distillation in small batches using copper pot stills. The use of dried grapes produces more dried fruit character in the final distillate.
