Lapostolle Pisco is a premium Chilean Pisco made from selection of aromatic Muscat grapes, sourced from the Elqui and Limari valleys in the northern part of Chile. Lapostolle also make the fantastic Kappa Pisco and the Kappa has been described as a bolder more “masculine” style whilst the Lapostolle is softer, smoother style.
Lapostolle is one of the most famous, and one of the best, Chilean wine producers. The estate was founded by Alexander Marnier Lapostolle (whose family are the producers of the world-famous Grand Marnier orange brandy liqueur) and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994. Their mission was to create world-class wines using French expertise and the superb terroirs of Chile. Pisco production is a more recent development beginning in 2009. Lapostolle Pisco is named after the founder of Marnier Lapostolle, Jean Baptiste Lapostolle. Jean Baptiste established a distillery in 1827 distillery in Neauphle-le-Château, a small village near Paris which went on to become one of the largest buyers of Cognac in the world.
The grapes for Lapostolle Pisco are specially selected Muscat grapes, specifically Muscat of Alexandria and Muscat Rosado. The grapes are grown on traditional Spanish pergolas, or “parrones”, from varying elevations ranging from sea level to over 4700 feet o.s.l and different types of soils and micro-climates. A wine is made from the grapes which is then double distilled in a state of the art copper alembic still brought especially from Cognac, resulting in an intense, pure and smooth pisco. This whole process is overseen by Patrick Raguenaud, the Master Cognac Blender and Cellar Master from Grand Marnier.
The packaging will be familiar to lovers of the Lapostolle wines, with their distinctive logo and font proudly displayed on the front. This new pisco epitomises the Lapostolle motto – “French in Essence, Chilean by Birth”.
