Foursquare Indelible Single Blended Rum is part of Foursquare’s Exceptional Cask Selection (ECS) range of Rums. This is the 18th release in the ECS series and it is a Single Blended Rum bottled at 48% ABV. A most welcome return to Zinfandel casks!

Foursquare Rum is produced by R L Seale, one of Barbados’ oldest trading houses, a family-owned business whose involvement in rum-making extends from father-to-son since 1820. The owner and talented head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region’s most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour. He also campaigns for for clarity in labelling of rums.

The Foursquare Distillery occupies the site of a former sugar factory that dates back to 1636 and, as one of the most modern and efficient rum distilleries in the world, is designed to be both highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Foursquare rum is made from locally owned and sourced sugar cane converted to molasses, fermented very slowly over 44 hours with South African yeast and then distilled. The rum is a blend of pot still and column still rums. The pot still rum brings complexity and flavour whilst the column still rum add balance and aroma.

Foursquare Indelible is a labelled as single blended rum which, in the proposed Gargano / Seale Categorisation of Rum, is a blend of pot still and traditional column rums, the direct comparison being with Blended Scotch Whisky – read more here. Foursquare Indelible is a blend of twin column still and artisanal pot still distilled rum from a single distillery (hence “single blended rum”).

Many will remember the first ECS Zinfandel cask, releases number 4. From Foursquare: “The connection to the ECS Mark IV release runs deep. The original bottling contained a dual maturation of a five year old ex-bourbon cask American white oak Rum, that was given a further six years in ex-Zinfandel cask from a Californian winery. A portion of that dual maturation remained unutilized from the original bottling, and has now been used to great effect in Indelible, in that it is now blended with a different eleven year old ex-bourbon cask matured Rum to echo its predecessor. Presented without chill-filtration at 48% ABV, Foursquare Indelible is at once familiar, and yet an entirely new experience.”
