Koko Kanu is a premium Jamaican Coconut Rum. Think grown-up Malibu!
Koko Kanu is made by the world-famous Jamaican rum distiller J Wray and Nephew and is produced by blending white Jamaican rum with natural coconut essence. Unlike a lot of coconut (and spiced) rums, this is bottled at a good, strong 37.5% ABV. As a rule of thumb, rum is only a rum if it is bottled at 37.5% abv or above. As a comparison, Malibu is bottled at 21% abv. Therefore, Koko Kanu offers the real essence of Jamaican coconut but with a quality, full-flavoured rum background.
Koko Kanu is named in honour of the Arawak Indians, indigenous people of the South Americas and the Caribbean, whose Arawakan language gave us the words “hammock” and “canoe”. The rather lovely design on the label also pays homage to Jamaica’s fauna and flora and features the Doctor Bird, a swallow-tailed hummingbird, and the island’s national flower, the Lignum Vitae.
