The Epicurean Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a blend of Lowland Single Malt whiskies. It is described by Douglas Laing as “city born and bred” (the lowland distilleries are not as remote as those in the other whisky regions) which is reflected in the label which features a city gent with a top hat and handle bar moustache. Douglas Laing & Co Ltd. Douglas Laing & Co Ltd are a specialist independent whisky blender and bottler with over 65 years in the business. The company was founded in 1948 Fred Douglas Laing in 1948 and is now run by his son and granddaughter, Fred Junior and Cara.
The Epicurean Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is the most recent addition to Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts collection which also includes Scallywag (Speyside), Rock Oyster (Islands), Big Peat (Islay) and Timorous Beastie (Highlands). It is a blend of Lowland single malt whiskies from both the west and east of Scotland. There are not many Lowland distilleries, four at the last count, with two new distilleries coming on stream soon. The four current distilleries are Ailsa Bay, Glenkinchie, Auchentoshan and Bladnoch, so I would say it is safe to say this whisky will be a blend of Lowland malt whiskies from one or two, maybe more, of these. Of course, the blend is secret!
The Epicurean Lowland Blended Malt Scotch Whisky it bottled without colouring or chill-filtration at high alcohol strength, 46.2%. It is a lighter, lemony and grassy style of whisky.
