Description

Mossburn Ephemera The Unconformity 14-Year-Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 52.9%

Mossburn Ephemera The Unconformity is a rare, limited-edition 14-year-old Speyside blended malt Scotch whisky. Sourced from two premier Speyside distilleries, the original spirit from one distillery was aged in re-charred hogsheads, while the other matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. Selected portions of both were expertly finished in reused Oloroso sherry hogsheads before being married together for additional maturation.

The result is a beautifully complex, cask-strength Speyside whisky offering vibrant tasting notes of lemon, ripe apricot, warm honey, white pepper, subtle oak, and aromatic spice.

  • Country: Scotland
  • Region: Speyside
  • Age: 14 Years Old
  • ABV: Bottled at cask strength 52.9%
  • Finishing: No chill-filtration or colouring added
  • Presentation: Presented in a beautifully crafted gift box

About The Mossburn Ephemera Collection

The Mossburn Ephemera Collection is a limited-edition series of 12 rare, independent bottlings curated by Mossburn Distillers & Blenders under the direction of whisky maker Neil Macleod Mathieson.

Drawn from unusual, experimental, and long-aged casks hidden away in Mossburn’s archives, the collection is designed as a journey through Scottish lore, history, and craftsmanship. Each release features unique cask finishes, custom artwork, and a narrative tied to obscure folklore or historic events.

The 12 releases comprise ten Scotch whiskies (blended grains, blended malts, and blended Scotches) and two aged Caribbean rums.

The Ephemera collection is highly exclusive, with only 1,100 bottles total available in the UK, and just 150-250 bottles per release. Buy Mossburn Ephemera The Unconformity 14-Year-Old online for UK delivery, or pick up a bottle in-store at Fareham Wine Cellar.

Why Is It Called The Unconformity?

Imagine a whisky blended to celebrate the life and work of 18th-century Scottish geologist James Hutton. When we discovered his groundbreaking Theory of the Earth, we recognised its importance and felt his story deserved a wider audience. In 1785, Hutton presented his revolutionary ideas about the Earth’s endless cycle of erosion, sedimentation and uplift, famously concluding: “We find no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end.”

A Lowland farmer and academic, Hutton is now regarded as the father of modern geology. He identified an ‘unconformity’ as a visible junction between different rock formations, with one of his earliest and clearest examples found close to Mossburn’s own Reiver’s Distillery in the Scottish Borders. This discovery became an important foundation for his later work.
