Rock Oyster Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a small batch blended Whisky made by Douglas Laing & Co Ltd. Douglas Laing & Co Ltd are a specialist independent whisky blender and bottler with over 65 years in the business. The company was founded in 1948 Fred Douglas Laing in 1948 and is now run by his son and granddaughter, Fred Junior and Cara. Rock Oyster Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is advertised as a whisky of “extraordinary character with maritime island qualities” and is a blend of malt whiskies from Arran, Islay, Jura and Orkney. Indeed it has superb maritime character and is smokey, but not too smokey. Perhaps a good entry point into Island malts. This no age statement whisky is bottled at 46.8% alcohol strength and traditionally without colouring or chill-filtration. The Rock Oyster bottle has fantastic, specially commisioned artwork including an oyster with a pearl and other nautical scenes to emphasis the seafaring spirit and maritime influence on this whisky.
“Rock Oyster showcases the archetypal Island character of gentle peat-smoke, vanilla’d honey and salt. If I could select just one dram to transport the Whisky enthusiast to the Islands of Scotland, it would be this one. Rock Oyster will sit proudly alongside our other core regionally themed Vatted Malts – Big Peat from Islay, Scallywag from Speyside and Timorous Beastie from the Highlands – hopefully contributing to Douglas Laing’s continued growth.” Managing Director Fred Laing.
