Description

Glendronach 12 Year Old Original Highland Single Malt Whisky is made near Forgue, by Huntly, Aberdeenshire. They distillery is most famous for producing whiskies with rich, Sherry cask finishes. The name Glendronach comes from the Gaelic for “Valley of the Brambles”.

The Glendronach distillery was founded in 1826 by James Allardice. It was eventually sold was sold to Teachers in 1960 who upped the number of stills from 2 to 6 and then mothballed from 1996 until 2001 when it was re-opened by Allied Distillers. The distillery was later bought by the Benriach Distillery Company Ltd. (in 2008) and was most recently sold to the American drinks giant Brown-Forman. As well as Benriach (Speyside) and Glendronach, they also own the Highland Glenglassaugh Distillery.

The distillery still uses the same iron mash tun, wooden washbacks and, now, only 2 saxophone copper pot stills they have always used to produce richly Sherry cask finished whiskies using mainly Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks from Andalucia in Spain. The water source is the Dronac Burn which is within in the distillery grounds.

Glendronach 12 Year Old Original Highland Single Malt Whisky is matured in a combination of the finest Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez (PX) Sherry casks. PX casks contribute sweet, fruity, raisiny character whilst the Oloroso brings nutty aromas and flavours. Glendronach 12 Year Old is bottled at 43% and is non chill filtered has no added colouring.
