Glengoyne 12 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made at the Glengoyne distillery located in Dumgoyne, north of Glasgow in Scotland.
The Glengoyne distillery was founded in 1833 by Geroge Connell and has been operational ever since. The distillery is locate on the Highland Line, a major fault line that traverses Scotland. Whilst the distillery is located in the Highlands, the distillery’s barrel houses located over the road are actually in the Lowlands. The current owners, Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd., purchased the distillery in August 2003.
The distillery is one of only of only three distilleries, the others being Macallan and Bruichladdich, who use the low-yielding, but high quality, Golden Promise barley. They also use warm air rather than peat smoke to dry the barley and the whisky is unpeated. Distillation at Glengoyne is quite slow and the slowness of the distillation process produces a smoother spirit. The 12 year old shows the subtle, complex flavours of slow distillation and 12 years in exquisite wood casks. It is aged in a combination of 20% 1st fill European Oak Sherry,
20% 1st Fill American Oak Bourbon and 60% Hand-selected quality Oak Refill casks. Aged for 12 years and bottled without any artificial colouring.
