The Coopers Choice Tamdhu Port Wood Finish “Winter Fruits” 59% ABV

The Coopers Choice Tamdhu Port Wood Finish is a third party independent bottling and very limited single cask bottling. In this case the whisky was finished in an ex Port Pipe (a Port barrel that usually holds around 500 litres). The label features the words “Winter Fruits” which gives an idea of the style, and the Port cask influence.

The Cooper’s Choice range of whiskies is bottled by the Vintage Malt Whisky Co. (VMWC) which was founded by Brian Cook in 1992. Brian is a honours graduate in Food Science with twenty year’s experience in the malt whisky industry, latterly as Export Director for one of Scotland’s principal distillers. The aim of the VMWC is to produce a range of malt whiskies from Scotland’s finest distilleries and to make them available to independent wine and spirit importers throughout the world. This single malt whisky is individually bottled and presented under the distinctive Coopers Choice label. Casks of malts at different ages are selected from some of Scotland’s finest, but rarely bottled ,distilleries. They encompass all the varied tastes and flavours to be found from the Eastern coastline, to the Highland Valleys and all the way to the Western Isles.

The Tamdhu distillery is a Speysde distillery located in the village of Knockando in Banffshire. The distillery was founded in 1896 by a group of assemblers, wishing to engage in the production of their own whisky. Today it is owned by Ian MacLeod Distillers and productions mainly goes into famous blended whiskies such as J&B, Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse. Single Malt bottlings of Tamdhu are rare. The name Tamdhu comes from Gaelic for “little dark hill”.

Only 762 bottles of The Coopers Choice Tamdhu Port Wood Finish were bottled in 2022.
