Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 Year Old Islay Single Malt Whisky is a small batch release from Ardbeg. It is bottled at as a 19 year old and is matured in American oak and Oloroso Sherry Casks. This is the second bottling, bottling code TB/02-18.09.00/20.JT.
The Ardbeg distillery was officially founded in 1815 by the MacDougall family. It has seen a chequered history and struggled through the 1970s until it was mothballed in 1981. There was some sporadic production in the years thereafter until 1997 when Ardbeg was taken over by Glenmorangie Plc which was then owned by Pernod Ricard. Today the distillery (along with Glenmorangie) is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy and grows from strength to strength. They are famous for their heavily peated whiskies.
Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is inspired by the Singing Sands of Islay, and reveals captivating notes of gentle, wood smoke, with gusts of fresh sea spray and eucalyptus on the nose. An oily mouthfeel leads into rich fudge, before smoky peat and aniseed crash down on the palate. Savoury and smoke combine in a sharp, intense and satisfyingly long finish.
