Tobermory 12 Year Old is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Isle of Mull, the second-largest island of the Inner Hebrides. Tobermory is the only distillery on Mull. They produce two whiskies the unpeated Tobermory and the peated, smoky Ledaig (and Tobermory Gin).
Tobermory is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and was originally founded in 1798 by merchant John Sinclair when it was known as Ledaig. having passed through many owners since then, Burn Stewart Distillers acquired the distillery in 1991. Most recently, in 2023, Distell was taken over by Heineken and integrated into Heineken Beverages, a company created by the merger of Distell and Namibia Breweries. As well as being well-known South African wine and spirits producers (Nederburg, Durbanville Hills and Three Ships Whisky et al.), Distell owns Deanston and Bunnahabhain distilleries. The distillery’s old warehouses were sold off and flats built on the site in the 1980s, therefore Tobermory’s whiskies are all aged at the Deanston distillery in southwest Perthshire.
Tobermory whiskies are produced using unpeated malted barley and are aged for a minimum of 10 years in barrel before release. The Tobermory 12 Year Old is bottled at 46.3% abv, with natural colour and non chill-filtered. It is the signature expression in the Tobermory core range alongside a 21 Year Old.
Tobermory means “Mary’s Well” in Gaelic.
