Description

Lunazul Tequila Anejo is a Mexican spirit obtained from of the 100% Agave plant, a species native from the Tequila Region.

Lunazul Tequila Anejo is a single estate tequila made at Tierra de Agaves in Jalisco. The company was founded in 2004 by Francisco Beckmann who is a seventh generation descendent of Jose Antonio de Cuervo who have over 250 years experience of distilling tequila. They are also one of the largest independent agave growers in Mexico with over 4 million agave plants spread over 4000 acres of land. Francisco’s son, Jorge became president of the company in 2005. The raison d’etre it to produce artisan, small batch tequila and an affordable price.

It is a common misconception that Agaves are cacti. Agaves are closely related to the lily and amaryllis families, and are not related to cacti. Only one of the 300 species of agave is permitted by the Tequila Regulatory Council to produce Tequila – Agave Azul Tequilana Weber; this plant will grow for 5-7 years before being harvested. The spirit gets its name from the town of Tequila located in the state of Jalisco where production started more than 250 years ago. Mexican authorities established in 1974 a Denomination of Origin for Tequila. It can only be produced in the state of Jalisco and in a few specific counties of neighbouring states.

Lunazul Tequila Anejo is proudly estate-grown, distilled and bottled. Made of 100% blue agave tequilana Weber at the Tierra de Agaves Distillery in Tequila, Mexico. After harvest the agava “pinas” are baked in ovens to break down the sugars, shredded or mashed, fermented into an alcoholic wort which is then twice distilled (as required by law). Finally the tequila is aged in barrels. Anejo Tequila is aged for a minimum or 12 months and less then 3 years in barrel.
