Tequila 38 Blanco is the brand’s youngest style of tequila. Tequila Blanco or “silver” tequila is unaged with no wood contact.
Tequila 38 is a brand owned and produced by Destilerías Espronceda who are a Spanish company located in Badajoz, Extremadura. Founded in 1943 by Domingo Rodríguez Suárez they have become a specialist in traditional and modern Spanish spirits. Their Tequila 28 brand is distilled and bottled in the Jalisco region of Mexico by the Cooperativa Tequilera La Magdalena.
The spirit of Tequila takes its name from the town of Tequila located in the state of Jalisco where production started more than 250 years ago. Mexican authorities established in 1974 a Denomination of Origin for Tequila. It can only be produced in the state of Jalisco and in a few specific counties of neighbouring states. Only one of the 300 species of agave is permitted by the Tequila Regulatory Council to produce Tequila – Agave Azul Tequilana Weber.
Tequila 38 is made from Agave grown on the hills around the city of Tequila in the region of Jalisco. The rich, volcanic soils here are also said to produce the finest Blue Weber Agave cacti. After the Agave are hand harvested by “jimadors” the hard cores (the piñas or “pineapples”) are then slowly steam cooked in stone ovens for an extra-long period of 36 hours which produces deeper, sweeter, slightly smoky and much more complex flavours than other brands. This cooking process converts complex carbohydrates to fermentable sugars. The pinas are then, shredded, gently pressed in a screw mill and the sweet juice (mosto) is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel vats. After alcoholic formation, the mosto is carefully distilled to produce a clean, high quality and smooth spirit.
Tequila 38 also produce a Reposado and a Chocolate Cream Liqueur.
Tequila 38 Blanco is fresh with aromas and flavours of agave, hints of black pepper with herbaceous and earthy character.
Tequila 38 Blanco is perfect to drink on its own, with a wedge of lemon or lime with tonic or soda and in all sorts of cocktails.
