John E Fitzgerald Larceny is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon made at Heaven Hill Distilleries, the largest independent, family-owned and operated producer of spirits in the USA. John E Fitzgerald Larceny Bourbon owes it name to the colourful history of John E Fitzgerald and the Old Fitzgerald Bourbon brand. John E. Fitzgerald was a bonded treasury agent, who at the time were the only people legally allowed to carry the keys to the barrel storage warehouses. Mr. Fitzgerald apparently had a particularly discerning palate for fine Bourbon, and would use his warehouse keys to gain access to the best barrels, which eventually became known around the distillery as Fitzgerald barrels. Owners S.C. Herbst, and subsequently Julian P. Pappy Van Winkle, immortalized the man who had both the keys and the fine taste by naming the brand Old Fitzgerald. Now Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon honors both the superb taste of this lawless treasury agent and the legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand. Larceny Bourbon is a very small batch Bourbon hand selected by the Master Distillers at Heaven Hill to have a taste profile of a six-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. It is made from 100 selected barrels from the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of their rickhouses. Larceny carries on the tradition of John E. Fitzgerald Bourbons with wheat as the secondary grain instead of the traditional rye. Its mashbill calls for one-third more wheat than other competitors, making it a smoother tasting bourbon.
