Old Forester Classic 86 Proof Bourbon is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey produced by the Brown-Forman Corporation.
Old Forester is a historic Bourbon brand that was created in 1870 and is officially the longest-running Bourbon on the market today. It is the only bourbon continuously distilled and marketed by the founding family before, during (legally for medicinal purposes) and after Prohibition and is also the first bourbon sold exclusively in sealed bottles. George Garvin Brown, the founder of the Brown-Forman Corporation was a former pharmaceutical salesman turned bourbon merchant and his descendants still run the company.
Old Forester Classic 86 Proof is made in the same classic style originated by founder George Garvin Brown under the supervision of Master Distiller Chris Morris at the Brown-Forman distillery in Shively, Kentucky. It is made to the original mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley (incidentally, the same mash bill used for Woodford Reserve). Old Forester is twice-distilled, first in a column still, then again using a thumper still. The new whiskey is transferred to new oak barrels and matured for a minimum of 2 years in a specially designed rickhouse. It is a little richer in rye than a lot of Bourbon blends.
Ideal for sipping neat, on the rocks, with a splash of water or in a classic cocktail.
Nose: Sharp and sweet, with a strong floral character that swirls with hints of mint, rich tobacco leaf and vanilla.
Palate: A touch of oak and pine provides a strong underpinning. Sharp at first, but softens quickly, with hints of oak, sweet corn and rye grain character. Spicy, with soft vanilla and light orange notes.
Finish: Long, warm and slightly drying. Nice level of sweetness.
Ideal for sipping neat, on the rocks, with a splash of water or in a classic cocktail.
