Canadian Club whisky is simply the most famous whisky from Canada. The company was founded by grain merchant Hiram Walker in 1858. The brand is currently owned by Beam Suntory.
Their first distillery was located in Walkerville, Ontario, purposefully to take advantage of the very high-quality local grains. It became known as “Club Whisky”, so called as it was sold in many gentleman’s clubs,. It became more and more popular and started taking sales away from American whiskies, the US Government insisted the country of distillation be added to the label and Canadian Club was born.
The grain bill for this whisky includes rye, rye malt, barley malt and corn. The corn whisky is the base whisky, whilst the other grains produce more flavoursome whiskies that all make up the secret blend. The various distillates are distilled separately prior to blending, and they are then aged in used American white oak casks for 6 years, three years longer than the 3 years minimum it must do by law.
Canadian Club Whiskey is the company’s flagship whiskey. Canadian Club has received the royal warrants of Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II.
