Bains Cape Mountain Whisky is a 100% grain whisky from South Africa, it is also the first grain whisky from South Africa. Bains Cape Mountain Whisky is an elegant single grain whisky which is skillfully crafted at Distells James Sedgwick Distillery (which dates back to the 1850s), situated at the foothills of the Bains Kloof Pass on the banks of the Berg River in Wellington. This whisky owes its delicate aroma and distinctive flavours to the finest quality South African grain and waters which flow over 850 million year old sandstone and indigenous fynbos. It takes its name from one of the most picturesque and magnificent passes in South Africa and also honours Andrew Geddes Bain, the creative mind behind its construction. Quite uniquely, the whisky is double-matured in specially selected oak casks. After the initial 3 years maturation period, it is released from the wood and then once again re-vatted into oak casks for a further 2 years maturation. Typical of aged grain whisky shows lots of creamy and toffee character.
