Cantine Florio Morsi di Luce is a luxurious Sicilian dessert wine bottled as a Vino Liquoroso Di Sicilia IGT. This premium IGT wine showcases the exceptional Italian wine heritage of Cantine Florio, who boast a rich history as one of the oldest and highest quality producers of Marsala wine. Beyond their superb range of traditional Sicilian wine, this renowned Italian wine producer also crafts an exceptional collection of passito wines, sweet wines and sparkling sweet wines.
The Zibibbo grapes for this elegant sweet wine are sourced exclusively from Florio’s vineyards on the volcanic island of Pantelleria, off the southern coast of Sicily. This unique Mediterranean terroir features rich volcanic soil and steep hillsides that contribute to the wine’s distinctive character. The vineyards are meticulously terraced between 50 and 100 meters with bush-trained vines planted in small ditches to protect them from the scorching heat and African winds – a testament to traditional Sicilian winemaking methods.
Through artisanal production techniques, the grapes are left on the vine as long as possible to maximize sugar concentration before being hand harvested. The grapes are then crushed and left in contact with the skins briefly before gentle pneumatic pressing and controlled fermentation at 17-18°C. Once the fermenting wine reaches 5-6% alcohol, neutral grape spirit is added, halting fermentation and preserving the natural grape sugars to create this premium dessert wine. This fortified wine production process results in a beautifully balanced wine at approximately 16% ABV.
This golden colored wine undergoes careful aging for 10 months in a selection of old and new 225L barrels, followed by 8 months in the distinctive 50cl bottle before release. The smaller half bottle format makes it perfect for special occasions and dessert pairings.
Cantine Florio Morsi Di Luce is crafted from 100% Zibibbo grapes – the local Sicilian name for Muscat de Alexandria, one of the most celebrated grape varieties for creating concentrated flavors in dessert wines. This same variety forms the foundation of the famous Moscato di Pantelleria Naturale, highlighting the exceptional quality and Italian wine excellence of this boutique wine production.
Bright golden color and fresh character, enriched by aging which gives light notes of toasted hazelnut and apricot.
A superb dessert wine. Try with pastries, cakes, Sicilian cannolo and blue cheeses.
