Fresita is a Chilean sparkling white wine blended with 100% pure and natural strawberry puree from strawberries grown in the Andes and Patagonia. The sparkling wine for Fresita is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel and Chardonnay which goes through the Charmat method of sparkling wine production. At the stage when the liqueur dosage would normally be added to the sparkling wine to achieve the desired level of sweetness, the Fresita has strawberry puree added. The south American strawberry connection is perhaps a bit stronger than one might think. What we know today as the sweet, red garden strawberry was originally a cross made in Brittany, France using Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis (which was a white berry), which was brought from Chile by Amédée-François Frézier in 1714. Fresita should be served chilled and is a very refreshing drink, packed with strawberry flavours but with wine character too.
