Description

Quinta do Noval 2019 Vintage Port is an exceptional Vintage Port from this illustrious Port House. Their Ports are characterised by purity of fruit and a fine, delicate quality.

There are records of Quinta do Noval stretching back as far as 1715 but it was when Port shipper António José da Silva acquired the property in 1894, and replanted all the vineyards after the devastation by Phylloxera, that Quinta do Noval became a name to contend with. Noval became super famous for their legendary 1931 vintage Port, which has been described as one of the most sensational Ports of the 20th Century. They also lay claim to being the first producer to create a Late Bottled Vintage, although, there are a couple of other producers who claim this too! In 1993 the estate was acquired by  AXA Millésimes and joined a prestigious family of wine estates including Disznókő in Tokaj, Hungary, and in France Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac, Château Suduiraut in Sauternes, Château Petit-Village in Pomerol and Domaine de l’Arlot in Burgundy.

From Quinta do Noval, “This was a long harvest, but this is not unusual in the Douro, where the diversity of grape varieties, aspects and altitudes results in different picking times for each specific plot. This diversity represents a challenge for the technical team but also an incredible richness, adding complexity and character to our wines at Quinta do Noval. Early tastings revealed some marvelous wines. They display pronounced aromatic intensity of ripe red fruit and remarkable vivacity. The fine quality of the tannins contributes to well-structured Ports with long ageing potential.”

Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Sousão, Tinta Roriz

Vinification: Grapes are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation macerate to obtain the best possible extraction in the lagares, the traditional stone vats from the Quinta.

Maturation: It is matured for 18 months in wooden casks in the air- conditioned cellars of the Quinta, at the demarcated region of the Douro Valley before bottling.

2780 cases produced.
