Description

Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port is made by Symington Family Estates (owners of Graham’s, Warre and Dow’s Port et al.). Smith Woodhouse is a specialist producer of premium quality Ports. The uniformity of this quality is underpinned by Smith Woodhouse’s own Madalena vineyard from where the wines are largely sourced. This small Quinta (vineyard property) has the highest “A” quality rating. It is located in the Rio Torto district, acknowledged as one of the finest Port growing areas. The majority of Smith Woodhouse’s Quinta da Madalena vineyard is composed of Vinha Velha (old mixed vineyards) which therefore have a marked influence on the style of the their Vintage Ports. Smith Woodhouse was acquired by the Symington Family in 1970 at the same time that they bought Grahams Port. Smith Woodhouse Ports have outstanding length and structure and are drier than most. Their Vintage Ports show a characteristic opulent rich style, balanced by firm hard tannins. Ageing gives these wines an unmatched elegance.
