Taylors 1967 Very Old Single Harvest Port is the fourth release in a series of limited edition Tawny Ports released by Taylors when they are 50 years old. 1967 Port would make a fantastic 50th birthday present in 2017. 1967 Vintage Port is now particularly hard to come by (only a handful of producers released any) but an 1967 Tawny Port is a brilliant alternative.
Taylors Port have one of the largest holdings of very old cask aged Ports in the Douro. These old Ports are single vintage Ports aged in seasoned oak casks, i.e they are single vintage Tawny Ports (also known as “Colheita” Ports). Taylors first started releasing some of these older Tawny Port when they were 50 years old in 2014 with the 1964 Vintage.
Taylors 1967 Very Old Single Harvest Port is made from grapes harvested in 1967 and the Port has spent many years quietly aging away in oak cask in Taylors cellars. This long period of oak ageing gives this Port its characteristic amber / tawny colour, smooth palate, complex, mellow flavours and rich aromas of dried fruits, nutty character and caramel nuances. As this will only have been bottled recently the Port will not need decanting (it will have been filtered at bottling) and is ready to drink.
The bottle is presented in the classic frosted Taylors Port bottle, in a high quality beech wood box and there are only a very limited number of bottles available worldwide. Taylors Managing Director, Adrian Bridge, comments “A 50th birthday or anniversary is a landmark occasion. Taylors Single Harvest Ports offer a unique opportunity to celebrate with an extraordinary 50 year old wine in perfect condition.”
