Description

Taylors 1983 Vintage Port, a vintage Port from the 1983 harvest.

Taylors Vintage Port is Taylor’s finest and rarest wine, the very pinnacle of Port. Only in a year when everything is perfect does Taylor’s “declare” a vintage. With the company’s reputation at stake, declaring a Vintage Port is not taken lightly, since it invites a knowledgeable and worldwide audience to judge whether perfection has indeed been achieved. Taylor’s Vintage Ports will last for fifty years or more and are renowned for their massive structure, concentration of flavor and distinctive masculine style. Vintage Ports are bottled after two years in wood, they continue to mature for decades in the cellar, slowly attaining the sublime elegance and power which are the hallmarks of the Taylor’s style. Taylor’s three famous properties – Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco – occupy distinct geographic locations. Each contributes its own unique character and dimension to the subtle harmony of the blend.

Vintage notes from Taylors:

“The winter of 1982/3 was marked by extremely cold weather in February, when snow fell in Pinhão for the first time in twenty years. Poor flowering in many vineyards and overall an unusually cold year, including the month of August. However, September was hot.

The harvest was late, starting on October 3rd ,but perfect conditions prevailed. Colour extraction was more than satisfactory and the winemakers’ notes at the time record that the ‘musts’ were exceptionally aromatic.”

Levels at bottom of neck. Feel free to ask for more information.
