Every bottle sold of the Rewilding Edition contributes financial support to Rewilding Portugal’s projects in the north of Portugal.

The Altano brand is owned by the world-famous Symington family (owners of Grahams, Dows and Warres Port amongst others) under their Symington Family Estates company. Altano Rewilding Edition is a joint venture between the Symington Family Estates and Rewilding Portugal. Rewilding Portugal was created to supporting environmental conservation on a 120,000 hectare wildlife corridor in the Greater Côa Valley. The Greater Côa Valley is in northeastern Portugal, an area which encompasses the border region between Portugal and Spain from the Douro river in the north to the Malcata Mountains in the south. The intention is to rehabilitate degraded land by restoring natural processes and encouraging the return of keystone species such as the Britango, Iberian Lynx, Imperial Eagle, Sorraia, Red Deer and Iberian Wolf, all of which are featured on the bay in tube carton. All Symington Family Estate vineyards are managed under sustainable viticulture practices which aim for minimum intervention, in order to protect and promote biodiversity, and the family farm the largest organic vineyard in the Douro (112 hectares).

The grapes for the Altano Rewilding Edition Douro Tinto are sourced from Symington family properties, partially sourced from higher altitude vineyards to produce wines with a fresh, elegant and fruit-driven profile. Three grape varieties define this wine: Touriga Franca, for the fresh, floral aromatics; Tinta Roriz, for the bright, rich red fruit flavours and the Tinta Barroca, for structure, substance and vigour. The wine is aged briefly in used French and American oak barrels of 400 L. The larger barrel size ensures that the wood  subtly complements the fruit.

This bag in tube wine is made from easily recyclable materials and has a much lower carbon footprint than the equivalent volume in glass, and can be enjoyed for 4-6 weeks once opened.
