Aniello 006 Malbec is made by Bodega Aniello, a small craft winery located in the Alto Valle del Rio Negro in Patagonia at 39 degrees South. The vineyards are located at around 600 metres above sea level near the small town of Mainque in the Upper Rio Negro Valley. The existing winery, built in 1927, and surrounding vineyards (including some old pre-phylloxera Malbec vines) have been extensively renovated by Santiago Bernasconi and his team when they bought the estate in 2010 and Bodega Agniello was established. The 006 is a reference to the particular vineyard plot that the Merlot grapes for this wine are sourced from. The grapes for the Aniello 006 Malbec are hand-harvested and undergo a 3 day period of cold maceration in small concrete tanks followed by fermentation using indigenous and selected yeasts. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in tank and 30% of the wine is aged for 12 months in oak casks.
