Description

Cantine Lunae Bosoni Horae is an Italian red wine from Liguria. The continuation of the French Cote d’Azur into the Ligurian coastline stretches as far as Tuscany. Most Ligurian wines have traditionally been drunk locally and the steep, terraced vineyards, which don’t allow for mechanisation, mean that wine-making has never been that economical. One exception is the Colli di Luni DOC near La Spezia in far eastern Liguria nestling against the Apuan Alps where the vineyards are planted on the Magra plain. Here the soil is of a varied gravelly and sandy nature which supports many grape varieties such as Vermentino (which is the most important white variety), Albarola, Pollera Nera, Malvasia and Massareta. Cantine Lunae Bosoni is one of the star producers in the area. Owned by the Bosoni family for five generations, Paolo Bosoni took control of the family business from his father in 1966. It is named after an ancient Roman city called “Luni” or Moon City which was located between the Ligurian villages of Ortonovo and Castelnuova Magra on the border between Tuscany and Liguria. Cantine Bosoni controls 65 hectares of vineyards, of which more than 30 are owned by the Bosoni family, the rest are owned by local growers. All grapes are harvested by hand in small crates and wine-making is led by tradition, with the aid of modern technology. The grapes for the Horae are a blend of Massareta, Merlot and Pollera Nero and are sourced from a single vineyard located in the foothills of Castelnuovo Magra. It is aged for 12 months in barrique.

Tasting Notes

Cantine Lunae Bosoni Horae is an intense purple / red colour with a rich, intense nose of red berries. The palate is full and elegant with supple tannins and a good persisent finish.
