Description

Chambolle Musigny AC Domaine Christian Clerget is made from grapes sourced from seven small plots of Pinot Noir vines –  Les Athets, Les Babillères, Les Herbues, Les Nazoires, Les Bussières, Les Croix, and Les Condemenes. They are located down from Chambolle-Musigny, with shallow limestone soil.

The beginnings of Domaine Christian Clerget stretch back several generations when the Clerget family started acquiring parcels of vines in and around the villages of Vougeot, Chambolle Musigny and Flagey-Echezeaux. Christian took over running the Domaine in 1996, building a new winery in 1998 and converting to “natural winemaking” – winemaking without herbicides and insecticides. Today, the 6 hectare Domaine Christian Clerget estate, based at their cellars in Vougeot, is a member of a group of 20 like-minded, small growers called Bourgogne de Vigne en Verre. Christian believes, quite simply, that the quality of a wine is contained in its vines and aims for low yields and mature, healthy grapes. To this end, excess leaves and immature bunches of grapes are removed to allow grape bunches to “breathe.”

All grapes for Chambolle Musigny AC Domaine Christian Clerget are manually harvested carefully sorted and destemmed prior to vinification. The seven plots of Pinot Noir are Les Athets, Les Babillères, Les Herbues, Les Nazoires, Les Bussières, Les Croix, and Les Condemenes which are all located on shallow limestone soil with an age of 40 to 50 years old. Domaine Christian Clerget Chambolle Musigny is aged for 18 months in oak barrels (10% new, the rest a combination of second and third fill). Approximately 275 cases per vintage.
