Chateau Gloria is an Bordeaux red wine from the St Julien wine-growing appellation. It is owned by Domaines Henri Martin and is one of the most well-known estates in the region.
The Chateau Gloria winery is located in the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle and the vineyards are scattered amongst some of the most famous vineyards of the St Julien appellation. They are distributed over three zones, in the centre of Beychevelle, to the west and to the north of the appellation (bordering Pauillac). Row by row of vines, parcel by parcel, he patiently and systematically negotiated with his nearby owner friends. Over the years the parcels of vines have been bought from exclusively from Chateaux classified as grands crus in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855 – including Châteaux Saint-Pierre, Beychevelle, Léoville-Poyferré, Gruaud-Larose, Léoville-Barton, Ducru-Beaucaillou, Lagrange and a Saint-Julien property of Duhart-Milon.
Chateau Gloria was founed by Henri Martin in 1942 when he purchased 6 hectares of vineyards at the same time that he purchased Chateau Saint Pierre. Today the estate comprises some 50 hectares and and the current owner is Jean-Louis Triaud, Martin’s son-in-law. The vineyards are planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignona, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The vineyards are primarily located on soils made up of Gunzian gravel covering a layer of clay and sand which provides excellent drainage and lends distinct characteristics to the wines.
The grapes are all harvested by hand and the wine is fermented in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. After vinification the wine is agd for 14 months in oak casks, 40% of which are renewed each year. Annual production is around 220,000 bottles.
Chateau Gloria 2019 is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The wines are known for their elegance, structure, and aging potential and exhibit aromas of black fruits, cassis, cedar, and tobacco, with a balanced tannic structure and a long, lingering finish.
