Half bottles of wine (37.5cl) are one of the most versatile and practical formats for wine lovers. Whether you’re looking to buy half bottles of wine online or simply want more flexibility in how you enjoy wine, they offer several key advantages:
This Lalande de Pomerol half-bottle is an excellent way to experience high-quality Bordeaux in a smaller format, making it a smart choice for both casual and serious wine drinkers.
Nestled in Lalande de Pomerol – often called Pomerol’s little brother – this estate produces silky, Merlot-dominant wines that punch well above their price point. The appellation sits on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, sharing much of the same gravelly, clay-rich terroir that makes Pomerol so celebrated, at a fraction of the cost.
Château Les Hauts Conseillants has been in the Figeac-Bourotte family since 1973, when Leopold Figeac and his son-in-law Pierre Bourotte acquired the original five hectares. Today, Jean-Baptiste Bourotte, born the same year his family purchased the vineyard, runs the operation across ten hectares split between two distinct parcels: six on sandy-clay with gravelly subsoil on the Chevrol plateau in Neac, and four on a gravelly outcrop in Lalande. The wines are made in consultation with Michel Rolland’s team and Christian Veyry, a further mark of the estate’s seriousness.
The family also own Château Bonalgue, Clos du Clocher in Pomerol and Château du Courlat in Lussac-Saint-Emilion.
Deep garnet in colour, the nose offers inviting aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, plum, and a touch of liquorice and sweet spice. On the palate it is plush and velvety, with juicy black fruits, subtle oak influence (vanilla and tobacco), soft yet structured tannins, and a harmonious, lingering finish. Approachable now, it will also reward a few years of cellaring.
This elegant Lalande de Pomerol pairs beautifully with roast duck, duck confit, rack of lamb, grilled steak, or braised beef. It also shines with game dishes such as pheasant or venison, as well as pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto, and aged hard cheeses. The convenient 37.5cl half bottle makes it ideal for intimate dinners or matching different wines with multiple courses.
How many glasses are in a 37.5cl half bottle of wine?
A 37.5cl (375ml) bottle typically provides 2–3 glasses of wine, depending on pour size. A standard wine glass measure is 125ml in the UK, so you will get three standard glasses from a half bottle.
Are half bottles of wine good quality?
Half bottles contain the same wine as full bottles, just in a smaller format. They’re an excellent way to enjoy premium wines without waste.
Do half bottles age differently?
Yes, half bottles tend to mature slightly faster than full bottles due to the higher oxygen to wine ratio. They are not the best option for extended cellaring.
