Description

Chateau Paveil de Luze was established in the early 17th century and came into the possession of the de Luze family in 1862 when it was bought by Baron Alfred de Luze. More recently in the 1960s, after many of the vines were destroyed by the extremely harsh winter of 1956, the vineyard was patiently and carefully replanted and the vatrooms and cellars renovated by Baron Geoffroy de Luze. In 2004, after overseeing some thirty vintages, Geoffroy de Luze handed over the reins to his son, Frédéric. The 80 acre vineyard site is pretty much as it was three centuries ago, a single, undivided estate surrounding the Chateau. The soil is predominantly gravel and has very good natural drainage and is planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. After vinification the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
