Château Pineraie Cuvee Authentique Cahors

Description

Château Pineraie Cuvee Authentique Cahors is a red wine from south west France and is 100% Malbec. The grapes come from the highest terraces of the plot. In Cahors Malbec is more usually known as Côt.

Jean-Luc Burc is the proprieter at Chateau Pineraie. The 37 hectare estate, which is located near Puy-l’Eveque in the north-west of the Cahors region, has been an established winemaking area  for centuries and has recently been elevated to Chateau status. A manuscript leather parchment, written in latin in 1456, proves the Burc family were already the land owners around Cahors at that time. All this is confirmed by deeds of vineyards from 1663 and 1838. Since then, generations of wine makers have followed down the family wine working the land, growing grapes and producing wine. Today the 5th and 6th generations work together – Jean-Luc Burc now shares the running of this 50 hectare estate daughters Anne and Emmanuelle.

Château Pineraie Cuvee Authentique Cahors is made from fruit sourced from 5 hectares of sustainably-managed vines averaging 60 years’ age, the oldest of which were planted in 1920. These old vines, combined with the gravelly and siliceous sandy clay soils contribute a great deal of character to this hefty wine. Green harvesting and thinning help to lower yields to 30hl/ha. The resulting crop is fermented at 30 degrees and vatted for a month before ageing in oak casks for 18 months, 60 – 70% of which is new oak.
