Chateau Robert is located at the east of the Pomerol appellation. It is is owned by Dominique Leymarie and is situated in the town of Libourne, 2km west of the village of Pomerol itself. The vineyard area covers some 7.72 hectares and the soil is sandy – gravelly with a thin iron pan layer. The grape varieties planted at Chateau Robert are 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the average age of the vines is 35 years old. The grapes are harvested by hand and the various parcels of grapes are sorted once in the vineyards and once at the winery. The wine undergoes a long maceration (24 to 35 days) in stainless steel and cement vats at a temperature of 28 to 30°c. The wine is then aged 18 months in cement vats prior to bottling. Production is approximately 28,000 bottles per year.
