Description

Chateau Saint-Pierre was was classified as a 4th Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.

The Chateau is owned by Henri Martin, of Domaine Henri Martin (he also owns Chateau Gloria, amongst others). The Chateau was founded as early the 17th Century and passed through the hands of various owners. After the 1855 classification, due to Napoleonic inheritance laws, the estate was broken up and scatter. In 1982, through years of hard work and persistence, Henri Martin, was able to purchase all the original parts of the vineyard that made up the estate as was in the 1855 classification. Since then it has become known as one of most stylish and classic St Julien wines.

The 17 hectares of vineyards at Chateau Saint-Pierre are planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. On average the vines are around 50 years old and are planted on gravel, sand and clay soils. Harvest is manual. Fermentation is traditional in stainless steel, temperature controlled tanks. The wine is aged between 14 to 16 months in French oak cask, 50% new.
