Description

Château Semonlon is a red Bordeaux classified as a Haut-Médoc, located in Avensan, near Margaux and just a stone’s throw from Château Citran.

The estate is owned by Olivier Dumora, whose great-grandfather, Mr. Lagune, founded the vineyard in 1950. The Dumora family has maintained ownership ever since. Château Semonlon emphasizes traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern practices to enhance the quality of its wines. They practice “lutte raisonnée,” a farming approach that closely aligns with organic and biodynamic principles, though without formal certification.

Château Semonlon spans 7 hectares, featuring soils of muddy gravel interspersed with larger stones and a small percentage of clay. The vineyard is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, with the vines averaging 35 years of age.

Harvesting is done entirely by hand, and traditional winemaking techniques are employed, including fermentation in stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged for one year in second-fill oak barrels.

Annual production is around 45,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes
