Chateau Tour Granins Grand Poujeaux is a red wine from the Bordeaux wine-growing region made from grapes grown in the Moulis appellation. It is located between Chateauy Poujeaux and Chateau Maucaillou.
The orgins of the estate date back to 1930 when Mr Edouard Batailley bought Chateau Peyrodon located in the town of Moulis-en-Medoc, the town from which the Moulis appellation takes its name. In 1954 Batailley acquired the nearby Cru Bourgeois known as Chateau Granins and merged the estates to form Chateau Tours Granins. In 1983 the estate was divided between Batailley’s two children. One of them, Andre Batailley, created the Granins Grand Poujeaux label. Ten years later in 1993 Andrew joined forces with his children and finally reunited the family estate into one when he acquired his sister’s estate. Today the winery is owned and run by Batailley’s grandchildren, the 3rd generation, Marilyne and Pascal Bodin. Consultant oenologists are Jacques and Eric Boissenot.
Chateau Tour Granins Grand Poujeaux is produced from vines with an average age of over 35 years old. The vineyards cover seom 13 hectares (32 acres) and the soils here are Garonne gravels and clayey-calcareous. The vineyards are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. In the vineyard there is green harvest and leaf removals to help produce the best grapes. These are hand-picked at full ripeness with a careful selection in the vineyard. Once again, the grapes are sorted at the winery. The wine is traditionally produced in thermo-regulated concrete and stainless steel vats with a long maceration between 20 to 25 days according to the vintage. 20% of the wine is aged for 12 months in vats and oak barrels. Production is around 2500 bottles.
The 2015 is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chateau Tour Granins Grand Poujeaux is medium bodied and has aromas cherries, toasty oay menthol, cloves and vanilla. The palate is extremely elegant, dry, fruity and with espresso notes. Its tannins are velvety, in a fresh wine, with good body and length.
Drink with coarse patés, charcuterie, grilled meats and mature cheeses.
