Craggy Range Zebra Vineyard Pinot Noir is a single vineyard Pinot Noir. The vineyard is located in Bendigo, a warmer sub-region of Central Otago, lying to the east of the Clutha river and Lake Dunstan. Craggy Range was established by Terry Peabody and Steve Smith MW in 1997 with the intention finding and purchasing the best vineyard sites in New Zealand. Once the sites were identified and bought the vineyard sites were planted with the grape varieties best suited to the different terroirs. Craggy range has two wineries located in the Hawke’s Bay region, the Giants winery and the Highway 50 winery and vineyards in many different locations across New Zealand. The Zebra Vineyard was planted over three years from 2003. It is situated at an altitude of 200m on Loess and sandy loam soils. The grapes for the Craggy Range Zebra Vineyard Pinot Noir are hand harvested and 100% destemmed prior to fermentation in stainless steel open top tanks. The wine is aged in small French oak barrels (20% of which are new) for 9 months.
