Description

Domaine de la Ville Rouge is a family-owned 15 hectare wine estate founded in 2006 and is situated, in the heart of Crozes Hermitage some 5km south of Tain l’Hermitage. The estate is currently run by Edgar and Jocelyne Giraud and their son, wine-maker Sebastian, however the estate can trace their origins back to 1919 when Paul Giraud took over his stepfather’s orchards and also started to plant vines. Paul was also a founder member of the famous Tain L’Hermitage co-operative and the family have owned vineyards ever since. Domaine de la Ville Rouge is dedicated to the environment and to leave a cleaner earth for future generations. To this end the estate has been undergoing conversion to organic farming practises since 2009 and should be fully organic certified from the 2012 vintage onwards. Domaine de la Ville Rouge Crozes Hermitage Terre d’Eclat is made from 100% Syrah grapes from vines with an average age of 25 to 30 years. The wine undergoes a 4 day cold soak prior to controlled fermentation with minimal use of sulphur. 40% of the wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels.
